Time to Cake the Donuts

A reader, Jessica, sends this picture of the cake from her pirate-themed wedding:

She writes:

They are about 1/2 original glazed and 1/2 cream filled. In total, we bought 7 dozen donuts for less than $50 and everyone LOVED the cake. Took about 15 minutes to assemble. The ribbons were tied around wooden skewers. The little flags are hand-made from labels b/c I couldn't find any. The coins are from our shower, which my friend threw as a surprise. The duckies are from our bathroom (washed in the dishwasher before going on the top of the cake).

Thanks, Jessica. Is this part of a growing craze? Send me your donut wedding cake pics and I'll put them in future posts.

This is very cute, but how do you cut it or do people just pull one off. Then you have to be sure you have at least one for everyone coming to the wedding. Still a big savings though probably. My vote is still out.

Yes, they just pulled them off individually. And yes, I bought with having one for each person, plus about an extra dozen. We had bad weather at our out-of-town location, so we had even less people come than we were expecting and had TONS left over!

I don't know what we would have done if we hadn't done this, maybe we would have had pie instead, but I think it was way less that a traditional cake would have been.

I wanted to do this as a "groom's" cake...I had a topper made with Homer and Marge Simpson in their wedding clothes! Still used the topper in a ring of flowers for the nameplate table.

Very Cute Jessica!

And I love the Homer and Marge idea...
