Copy Stop

photocopygraphic.jpg

L came home after work and made this declaration:

"I know that this is going to make me sound like a jerk, but I really think there are some people in the world who are not as smart as I am. And when I say 'some people' I mean the people who work in copy shops and when I say 'not as smart' I mean they're dumb. They feel no ownership for their place of work and could care less that the people coming in might actually have things they need to do."

L was frustrated after going to a Manhattan copy store to see if they could print white ink on a colored background for the reception place cards. Apparently, a disinterested store employee dismissed the idea completely, arguing that it was as impossible as inventing a perpetual motion machine.

L looked around the store and noticed things hanging everywhere that had white ink on a dark background. Apparently the store could do it, but this employee just didn't care to do it.

Considering my previous experience trying to get our thank you notes made, I'm beginning to wonder if anyone has ever had a pleasant experience at a copy shop. Certainly the tenth circle of Hell is a Kinko's.

'Groom' ... I will straight up admit that I do not visit your site regularily, but have been here a bit off and on. I did wish to say, however, that you do seem to be such an awesome Groom-to-be, so into the planning of the wedding (even if some of what you do is write about what she has experienced, it still shows interest, and that is worth a bundle!).
So many leave it all to 'her', --- maybe my memory is fading, but it seems that most of the wedding planning was up to me, he gave 2nd opinions. Your interest and participation is something that I do hope the Bride-to-be (L) is enjoying!

Printing adivce: Print Icon on 18th Street between 5th and 6th. They're wonderfully helpful and really know there stuff.
And as an aside... it can be difficult to print white text on colored paper because you need white ink, obviously not standard. What L might have seen is an example where the background is printed but the text is really just the paper it was printed on.
Good luck...

oh, my god, L and I are indeed the same person and you have surely stolen our lives!!! this is out of control. . .though you can tell L I actually went into anger management therapy after yelling at bank tellers and store clerks. . .it's a good thing she just came home and told you about her frustration.
see http://www.1115.org/archives/000342.html for more rants on poor customer service and possible causes.
and know that as an intern coordinator at a large company, the complaint i get most often is "they keep sending me to kinkos!"

L has been figuring out how to do some of this stuff on her own. Chances are she'll format everything on her computer and then bring it somewhere to have it printed.

Ahh, the joys of the copy shop. I fear Kinko's. I swear I will offer $$ to the first employee to everything right (the first time around), on time, and with a cheery attitude. If I ever protrayed their personality at work - I'd be on the street.
The copy shops have left us with no option but drop $300.00 bucks on a color laster printer for home. At least then I can yell at the person who screwed up (my dear FI). Good story!
